Below are some frequently asked questions about staying on Mustique. We’ve tried to think of everything but please do not hesitate to contact is if we’ve missed something.
What is the currency?
The local currency is the EC$ (Eastern Caribbean Dollar) However US$ are accepted in all island boutiques and outlets. The Mustique Company Office on island will exchange Travellers checks and foreign currency.
Is there a bank?
There is no bank or cash dispenser on the island. US$ and EC$ can be acquired at the Mustique Company office on island and charged to your on island account. Please note that for large sums of money the office will need a few days’ notice to collect from the bank on the mainland.
Can I bring my dog?
This is possible only if the animal is in compliance with Vincention reglementation about bringing animals into their country which usually involves a quarantine period on the mainland of Saint Vincent. Unless you are staying in Mustique for a long period our recommendation would be to leave your cherished pets at home.
Do I need a Visa?
Please refer to the Entry Requirements page under the Travel section.
Is there a Doctor on the island?
Yes, our resident Doctor runs a fully-equipped modern clinic and dispensary right next door to the Mustique Company offices. Full medical and emergency care, including the arrangement of emergency evacuation, is available.
What do I do in the event of an emergency?
Dial “8111” 24 hours a day for Emergency cases only (Doctor, Fire, Security and Police). The on island switchboard “8000” is manned 24 hours a day.
Can I drink the Tap Water?
Yes, our tap water comes straight from the on island desalinization plant which along with rain water provides all water on the island. There is even a tap at the plant where you can fill your bottles “at the source”.
Do I need any special vaccinations prior to visiting Mustique?
No
Babysitters?
Babysitting and Nannies can be arranged through the Villa services Dept. For rates and availability please contact kspencer@mustique.vc. There is more information under the Children page of our Island Lifestyle page.
Newspapers?
Computer printed International newspapers are available daily from 50 countries in 30 languages. Contact the office for a current listing and to place your order.
Gratuities: What should we tip the staff?
Tipping is recommended for satisfactory service and the Villa Rental Department will advise guests if requested. A general guide would be 5% of the weekly rental shared amongst all the staff. Some villas have implemented their own tipping policies which you will be made aware of at the time of booking.
Dress: What do we wear?
Less is more! No jacket and tie required anywhere on the island; casual yet sophisticated attire and barefoot elegance. Smart dress is preferred for evening dining in the restaurants.
Can I practice topless sunbathing?
Only in the privacy of your own Villa. Nudity is not allowed in public in Mustique. When walking around the island in bathing suits, please also wear cover ups such as T-shirts or pareos.
Do we need a driving license to drive a mule?
Yes. Drivers must obtain a current St. Vincent & the Grenadines driving permit, available from Immigration at the Airport for US $25. You will need to produce a valid drivers licence in order to purchase a local one.
How old do you need to be to drive a Mule?
The minimum age to drive on Mustique is 17 and you must be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
Which side of the road do you drive on in Mustique?
Left hand side and the speed limit is 20 miles an hour.
Can I go to Church on Mustique?
The Mustique Christian Assembly is located in Lovell Village and Sunday service begins at 11:00a.m. Everyone is welcome. Catholic services are held frequently at the Bamboo church which also has Anglican Services at Christmas and Easter. Please check with the office for times of service.
Can I get Married on the island?
Yes. You need to have spent at least four days in the country prior to being married. The Villa services department can organize the wedding ceremony and all administrative red tape on your behalf. Please contact activities@mustique.vcfor more information.
Electricity
All villas operate on 220 volts, 50 cycles and have standard British plugs and power points.
Can I order flowers?
Tropical flowers and bouquets can be ordered from florists in St. Vincent through the Villa Services Department.
Is there a hairdresser on the island?
Yes there is a qualified resident hairdresser on island most of the time. Her services are offered complementary in exchange for a donation to the local library. For more information please contact activities@mustique.vc
Is fresh lobster available on the island?
Help us preserve our precious resources. It is illegal to fish or buy lobster from May to August. You may use what is stored from May 1st–31st. Do not buy from the fishermen during the protected period.
Mail/Postage/Fax
Postcards and stamps may be bought and mailed from the Mustique Company offices. Faxes may also be sent from the office. You will be advised of any incoming mail. Courier service (DHL/Federal Express) is available through St. Vincent.
Can we get movies on the island?
An extensive range of DVDs is available at the local library.
Is there a cinema on the island?
Weekly open-air movies are shown during the season on Fridays for children and Saturday for adults at the Cotton House lawn.
Are there Safety Deposit Boxes?
Most villas are equipped with small safes—please use them. You may also leave any valuables in our office vault.
Computer Services
All Villas feature broadband internet and most Villas today are equipped with Wifi. Expert assistance is available from the Mustique Company IT department for both PC & MAC and associated equipment. For more information please contact leigh@mustique.vc
How do I make International Calls?
International Direct Dial is available to all guests. An itemised bill of calls will be attached to your account. You will be invoiced for all calls off Mustique, from your extension. The on-island calls are complimentary. For international dial “01” plus the number for North America and the Caribbean. For all other countries dial "011" plus the country code plus the number.
What is the Mobile/Cellular coverage?
Mustique has GSM cellular coverage compatible with multi-band handsets. Your cellular service must have roaming capabilities. Non-GSM handsets (Verizon/NEXTEL) will not work on Mustique.
What television channels do you broadcast?
A variety of channels broadcasting News, Weather, Sports and Movies is available.

Can we light bonfires on the beach?
It is prohibited to light fires anywhere on the island. Fires can be particularly dangerous during the dry season—December to June.
Is there any crime on the island?
Whilst we are fortunate enough to enjoy a virtually crime free environment and benefit from excellent security in Mustique, it is important not to tempt people to petty crime by leaving cameras, radios etc. lying around in public places or handling large amounts of money in public.
Drugs
The laws of St. Vincent prohibit the use and possession of controlled substances such as marijuana, cocaine and heroin. The St. Vincent Police Force based in Mustique is charged with the responsibility of enforcing laws including prohibitions against the use of controlled substances. The penalties are very severe in this regard.
