Dining & Entertainment

For a private island, Mustique has a surprising variety of places to enjoy good food.

Our boutique hotel, the Cotton House, has two wonderful restaurants. The open-walled Verandah Restaurant is an elegant setting for both breakfast and candlelit dinners overlooking the sea. Nearby, right on the sand at Endeavour Bay, the hotel’s Beach Café is the perfect spot for mid-morning coffee, a barefoot lunch and sunset cocktails. Every Saturday, right after the outdoor movie, the Café fires up the grills for BBQ night.

For villa guests, every meal is an occasion, prepared by your own talented cook and served either in your indoor dining room or on the verandah overlooking the view. For a change of scene, ask for a gourmet picnic to be served in one of the huts on Lagoon, Pasture and Macaroni Beaches.

The restaurant at Firefly, the island’s only guesthouse is intimate and atmospheric, with breathtaking views over Britannia Bay. At night, candlelit tables on the balcony take full advantage of the sunset.

Far below, Basil’s Bar, one of the world’s great beach bars, is built on stilts over the sea. Its mood is Caribbean casual, the waterside setting is unbeatable, and the food, delicious. Local bands take the stage and the dance floor fills for the Wednesday night “Jump Up & Barbecue.” Basil’s Blues Festival in late January/early February, the most anticipated event on the island’s calendar, attracts big-name musicians for two weeks of wonderful riffs and rhythms. No reservations are necessary; just find a seat and a cold Hairoun beer.

Part of Mustique’s charm is that it can be the most private or the most social of places. You can keep to yourself, enjoying intimate dinners and secluded corners of the beach or, when the time is right, tap into the island’s famous “house party” mood (there is always a party happening somewhere).
On Tuesday night, everyone on the island gathers for the complimentary cocktail party hosted by the Mustique Company in the Great Room at the Cotton House. On Friday and Saturday nights, the hotel screens movies outside under the stars.
