Mustique I

Published by Arne Hasselqvist, "the man who built Mustique" and Alfred Schweitzman in 1994, this collectors edition is about fantasy realised.

"Take a minute to dream. Conjure up a very small, remote, hilly island in mid-ocean. Make it lush with tropical foliage. Ring it with white coral beaches kissed by clear shallow waters that vibrate with neon blues and greens. Add moderate waves breaking white and clean, making just the right sound. Give it a perfect climate, with enough rainfall to sustain life.

But wait, there are problems. Your island is teeming with Mosquitos and sand flies. There is no jetty for your boat, no runway for your airplane, no roads for your car, no restaurant, no houses for you and your friends. Dream more, dream bigger." Roger Vaughan, June 1993

This is an incredible account in images and testimonials of how Mustique came to be one of the most exclusive private islands in the world.

Mustique II

"This book is about fantasy realised....

Our first book about the island of Mustique, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, began with that line. Eight years have passed and the fantasy just gets better. For that reason we have produced this update on how thefragile Mustique fantasyhas not only sustained but flourished, and how the surrounding area of the Caribbean has responded in kind.

For those who missed it Mustique related the beguiling tale of an adventurous young British Dandy named Colin Tennant (Lord Glenconner)who was sent out to Trinidad in 1953 to take care of his family's mahogany plantations. There he heard about a hilly, 1400 acre island named Mustique....

As often happens with seminal creative spirits, Colin Tennant departed Mustique when polishing the complex business of resort community became a necessary priority....The island grew until there were 70 unique luxury houses in place by 1992 for owners from 27 countries and a permanent staff of 1000 counting construction workers and Mustique Company employees.

Thats where Mustique II begins."Roger Vaughan, 2001

Mustique Houses

"The small Caribbean Island of Mustique has long been know as the playground of the rich and famous. With its clear blue waters, pristine white beaches and fringing coral reefs, this rugged and beautiful island has attracted celebrities, superstars and royalty to its shores since the 1960's...

Architectural and cultural influences are numerous and diverse, resulting in a unique collection of singular houses. Given the size of the island - a little over two square miles - it is doubtful whether such an eclectic group of properties exists in such a small area anywhere else.

In this book one of the Caribbeans' best-known photographers Mike Toy takes us on a tour through twenty-three of the islands homes and illustrates why they are amongst some of the most coveted in the world."

A Taste of Mustique

A book about the food and people of the island of Mustique. Kevin Snook's recipes, with their contemporary take on traditional Caribbean ingrediants, are presented together with stories written by those who live in this "paradise" and profiles of Mustique landmarks. Sophie Munro's stunning photographs illustrate not only recipes but also many factes of life on the island - both that of the inhabitants and of the wonderful world of nature that flourishes there, described in the forward by resident Sir Mick Jagger.
